Operation: Cowboy Hat St. Petersburg, Russia trip pictures

In June 2005, an Operation: Cowboy Hat
team traveled to St. Petersburg, Russia to
work along side Pastor Sergei Timokhin and the leaders in his church. On the team were Pastors Jeff and Sheryl Gorman, their son David, and Children’s Ministry Director,
Janie McQueen, all of the Great Round-Up Covenant Church in Ellensburg, Washington.
Also, joining the team were Robert Welch
and Paul Staggs of “Branded” and their wives, Jeannie and Becky, all of Texas.

The mission trip was a whirlwind of activities! David built cowboy and rodeo type training equipment on site to be used “for fun” in
outreach events. Concerts were held at parks, night clubs and prison. And everywhere the team went, invites went out to join the local church for a special “cowboy church” service.

Three things we found out:

1. If you are wearing a cowboy hat, you can talk to almost anyone on the streets of St. Petersburg, a city of 5 million people.

2. Relationship Evangelism works. With the help of interpreters, we were able to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, which was very well received. On Sunday, many came to church for the first time.  The altar was full.

3. We found that the Russian people are some of the most special people in the world! We fell in love with them!

And we plan to continue to help with their ministry in St. Petersburg. Pastor Timokhin has shared with us his 100/100 Vision. It is for 100 churches in 100 Russian cities! Now, he is very specific about what a real “church” is.

As he has pointed out, the “church” is not a building! In his own words, he states, there are “churches around on every corner without a full gospel truth kissing their temples!” Because, of this he says, “Russian Christians begin to believe that the House of the Lord is a building.”

Pastor Sergei reports that there are now 40 churches who remain in prayer as a part of the 100/100 Vision project. Following are quotes from some of those pastors:

From Saratov, a pastor says, “People are the most important thing; they have eternal souls. We need to care for them in the House of God.”

From South Russia, a pastor declares,
“I feel the move to believe together! It is out of our normal Russian financial ability, but step by step, lot by lot, house after house, we can spread the fire to possess the land to let Russians see the House of the Lord in their own city! God will tell some people to help us. He does always!”

From Magnitogorsk, a pastor affirms, “Together we can believe and miracles will come!”

And from Pastor Timokhin, “Saints must possess the land and build the community center! A prophet said recently to me: Russia will be closed for the Gospel for U.S. missionaries in a few years. If this is a reality, and it seems it could happen, then 100 churches in 100 cities will sustain the given truth and continue the Gospel work nationally.”

In St. Petersburg, Pastor Sergei Timokhin is stepping out in faith to “possess the land” for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Will you help? Currently, a Tent Church is being purchased for a place of meeting as land and building plans are in progress. Pastor Sergei calls it their “Tabernacle in the wilderness!”

Here is how you can help in Operation Cowboy Hat: Russia

COWBOY HATS! COWBOY HATS!
No, not that beat up, smelly one you ride in all the time. You know, the good one on the shelf that you never wear!  : )

Also, good/new western clothing, boots and buckles are helpful for church leaders to wear for cowboy outreach events.

And, of course, finances.

Currently, Pastor Sergei Timokhin’s church is raising funds for a tent to meet in for church while they obtain land for their own building.
